EU Shipping
On 28th March 2025 we are changing the way we ship orders to the EU in order to make it more affordable for our customers.
Cost of shipping depends on the weight of the parcel and will be shown at checkout. Taxes, duty and customs charges are usually due to deliveries to the EU and must be paid by the customer before delivery. If a parcel is refused by the customer and returned to us Backcountry Books will be charged for return postage. We will therefore only refund the customer the value of the item and not the shipping cost.
We will post your order with Royal Mail who will then pass it on to your country's national postal service. (eg, SwissPost in Switzerland, La Poste in France). You can see a list of these here >.
There may be import tax and / or duty payable before the item can clear customs. This is dependant on the country. In many EU countries tax on books and maps are low or zero.
There will probably also be a small charge (usually less than 10 euros) from the postal company for customs admin. You can see the charges for each country here >
For very heavy orders we may use UPS. In this case the customer will pay UPS directly any charges due. UPS will then pass the funds on to the relevant government.
